DOCTOR STOMP & PROFESSOR OZ
Doctor Stomp and Professor Oz reunion gig is at Evershot Village Hall on Saturday 21st January 2017. From about 1997 until 2006 the duo developed a cult following for their unique brand of folk and roots music. Their zany act which needs to be seen to be believed includes jaw dropping showmanship and instrumental wizardry.
They appeared on BBC television on several occasions including Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage and performed together at a great many events across the west country including several appearances at Glastonbury Festival.
Upon going their separate ways Doctor Stomp rebranded to Stompin' Dave and has made appearances all over the UK and beyond. He has performed at many bluegrass, blues, folk, and rock n roll music festivals including some major festivals such as Bestival, and Camp Bestival, etc. Dave was nominated for a British Blues Award in the acoustic act category 2014 and was winner of the FOAOTMAD old-time banjo competition 2011 and 2013.
Although Dave mainly plays solo in recent years he has been
performing regularly with award winning blues drummer Sam Kelly, top
rock and roll artist Earl Jackson, and Londonís finest barndance
band Cut A Shine. A band which in turn provide the personnel for one
of Daveís own bands Stompiní Dave and His Bluegrass Band.
Oz has been playing in local bands as well as with some touring musicians visiting the westcountry such as London based bluesman Errol Linton and zydeco maestro Flaky Jake. Oz the perfect foil to Daveís exuberance adds backingvocals, guitar, fiddle, and lap steel to Daveís lead singing, banjo, guitar, keyboard, fiddle and flatfoot dancing. Since disbanding Dave and Oz have kept up the odd performance together mostly at private events.
duo met whilst both studying music at Bournemouth and Poole College
back in the early nineties so they have now been performing together
for over twenty five years. They brought the house down at their
last official reunion gig at Evershot in 2015.
This event is promoted by the popular Band On committee. There will
be a licensed bar serving draught real ale, draught lager, scrumpy,
a range of wines, spirits and soft drinks. Doors open at 7.30pm, the
music and dancing will start at 8pm. For more information visit
