Angelina Baker

(Traditional)

by Stephen Foster 1850

Lyrics from The Banjo Pickers Songbook

Not the original lyrics

Way down on the old plantation that’s where I was born

I used to beat the whole creation mowing in the corn

And then I laugh and then I sing so happily all day

Until Angelina Baker come and stole my heart away

Angelina Baker, Angelina Bakers gone

Left me here to weep a tear

and beat on the old jaw bone

Angelina Baker, Angelina Bakers gone

Left me here to weep a tear

and beat on the old jaw bone

I’ve seen my Angelina in the spring time and the fall

I’ve seen her at the cornfield & I’ve seen her at the ball

Every time I’ve seen her she was smiling like the sun

But now I’m left to weep a tear cause Angelina’s gone

I went to see my Angelina lovely sunny day

I asked them if they’d seen her but they said she’d gone away

I don't know were to find her because I don't know where she's gone

So now I’m left to weep a tear and weep on the old jaw bone
